Autumn Arts-Based Wellness Workshop Recap
Three arts-based workshops with three different wellness partners in one week--Whew!
It started with visual meditations on the search for internal equilibrium through shape and symmetry with inpatient doctors through my partnership between NYC Health and Hospitals and The Whitney Museum. This was followed by exploring watercolor resist techniques and the metaphors of change and control that emerged with young breast cancer patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Last, musicians and teaching artists in the public health space at Sing for Hope navigated interpersonal boundaries and seasonal transitions through tactile materials and dyad sculptures.
Art-making in community is an accessible and evidenced-based means of managing stress and emotional burnout, professionally and personally. I'm so grateful to be able to share these invaluable expressive mental health tools with folks who carry so much throughout different walks of life in our city.
