Sharon Itkoff Nacache

I am an  artist, educator, author and mother of two. All of these roles inform my work as an art psychotherapist specializing in perinatal mental health.

I received my Masters in Creative Arts Therapy and Creativity Development from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and am nationally board certified and state licensed in New Jersey and New York. I have been privileged to work as a licensed Creative Arts Therapist with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of treatment settings in both the public and private sectors throughout NYC in a clinical career that has spanned more than 15  years. Art therapy is truly my “labor of love!”

My own "matrescence" and professional journey are intertwined, as I found renewed purpose and healing in working in the realm of perinatal mental health after completing advanced training through Seleni Institute and certification through Postpartum Support International in between the births of my children.

Rooted in my own experience as a professional and personal caretaker, I feel honored to be able to support others who identify with this role in cultivating their own sense of creative resilience in the workplace, throughout their family building journeys, and beyond.

My creative and clinical endeavors have been featured in both the LA Times and NY Times, and I've recently published a participatory perinatal picture book entitled "The Days Before I Met You: A Creative Space Honoring the Birth of a Parent."

I am also a creative clinical consultant and partner with the Whitney Museum of American Art and NYC Health and Hospitals Arts in Medicine Department.

Whether it's through verbal psychotherapy, an active creative process, or combination of the two, the lens through which we explore during treatment together is centered on personal insight, healing, and empowerment.
